Media archive and video platform development

I design systems for storing, finding and handing over video: from uploading source files and background processing to marking up clips and sending them to editing. I was tech lead of MediArchive for broadcasters, and in the VK Education LMS I tracked down video player failures on phones and weak connections.

Why clients come

  • Source files sit on drives and folders, and finding the right clip takes hours
  • Every department has its own metadata fields that can't change without a developer
  • Video won't play on phones or weak networks
  • Footage is shared over email and messengers with no access control

What I build

  • Upload

From the browser and through linked folders, resuming after network failures.

  • Background processing

Proxy copies, thumbnails, scene detection and processing status in the interface.

  • Viewing and markup

A timecode player, IN/OUT clips and AI-detected scenes with manual editing.

  • Metadata and search

Config-driven fields and tables: tailored to each client without rewriting code.

  • Access and delivery

Role-based access, packages of footage, public links that can be revoked.

  • Player and storage

Adaptive playback, S3 and MinIO storage, links that don't expire mid-playback.

What drives the cost

I send a stage-by-stage estimate after a call and a review of requirements.

  • Video volume and formats, processing speed requirements
  • Metadata schema and search scenarios
  • Hosting: cloud, boxed product or on-premise
  • Integrations with editing and broadcast systems

FAQ

Can the system be deployed on our infrastructure?

Yes. I design the architecture so the system can run in the cloud or on company infrastructure, respecting your rules for storing source files.

Do you use AI for markup?

In MediArchive, AI-detected scenes appeared next to manual markup and became user clips once edited. We choose recognition tools based on your footage.

Do you work alone or with a team?

I own the architecture, frontend and backend myself. If the project needs a designer, QA or DevOps, we agree on the team at the start.

What do you need to estimate a project?

Tell me what problem the product solves, who will use it and which systems it connects to. If there are no requirements yet, we'll work them out on a call, then I'll send a stage-by-stage estimate.

Why is the price shown as “from”?

It's the lower bound of the budget. The final figure depends on roles, integrations and load requirements — I give an estimate after reviewing the task.
